Non-CS Bachelor’s + MCA → Research Master’s in CS/AI in Europe: Realistic?
I have an unusual academic background and I’m trying to understand what realistic options I have for a research-oriented Master’s in CS/AI in Europe.
Background:
Bachelor’s degree: B.Sc. in Hospitality & Hotel Administration (India)
Then switched fields completely
Completed MCA(master of computer application) from a well-known private university in India with strong grades (~9+ CGPA)
Worked in AI/ML/Space-data-related research
Goal:
I want to pursue a technical/research-oriented Master’s in:
Computer Science
Artificial Intelligence
Machine Learning
Data Science (only if technically rigorous and research-focused)
I do NOT want business analytics / management-oriented programs.
Long-term goal is to continue into a funded PhD in Europe afterward.
Main problem:
Many European universities say applicants need a “relevant bachelor’s degree in CS or related field,” and my bachelor’s is unrelated even though I now have an MCA and technical/research experience.
My questions:
Are there universities in Europe that evaluate applicants based on the latest/highest qualification (MCA) rather than the original bachelor’s field?
Are pre-master’s or bridging programs a realistic route for someone in my situation?
Would a research-heavy profile/project compensate for the unrelated bachelor’s degree?
Has anyone here successfully moved into CS research/PhD after a non-CS bachelor’s but a technical master’s/postgraduate degree?
I would appreciate honest advice, especially from people familiar with European admissions.
