Is it rude to walk behind others in Canada?
I just moved from China to Canada. Yesterday I was going to McDonald's from home using Google Maps that showed there was a 1.2 km straight line, but someone was also walking in front of me on that way. Halfway through, he turned around and yelled at me, "Are you following me?"I said, "No, I need to go to McDonald's. I can go forward," and showed him my Google Maps. Then he got very angry and said, "I don't fucking care, just fucking go."
I don't know whether it's because of the smaller population in Canada, because I've never encountered such a situation in China where it is normal to walk behind someone else.
Most Canadians I've met are very friendly, so I want to know if it's considered inappropriate to do that and what I should do next time if I have the same direction as someone else.
