Is any of you satisfied with Trump's "peace deal" with the islamic republic?
I am asking this question because I see on X that Americans, especially Trump voters, alongside Israelis and Iranians are opposed to it while IR supporters are pleased.
What's in the deal? Key things are here: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2026/may/24/iran-ceasefire-deal-us-strait-of-hormuz
So, according to this, USA will relieve sanctions and unfreeze funds in exchange for allowing free navigation through Hormuz. Ending war in Lebanon is also a part of the deal. Also, nuclear issues will have another (!) 60 days to negotiate, which ends at the end of July.
Now after viewing comments under Trump's posts on X and Truth social and Fox post on X most comments by Trump supporters are negative. People are angry, disappointed, horrified, or feeling betrayed. Many feel like Trump has showed weakness and caved to terrorists. There's also concerns that regime will likely break the treaty as they broke every deal before. Since I'm not sure really how representative X is although some dissatisfaction clearly does exist, I'd like to hear from you:
- do you think this is a good deal that will help achieve more permanent peace, or is it another JCPOA that will be broken by IR asap?
- do you think the deal shows peace through strength or weakness?
- are you worried that relieving sanctions in exchange for opening Hormuz is a dangerous precedent, since free navigation through straits is cornerstone of international law of the sea?
- should Trump have restarted the conflict and armed the Iranians to achieve regime change, or are you satisfied with the regime staying in power?
- is it fair to constrain Israel in responding to Hezbollah's attacks, and why is that even part of this deal?
- is this what Reagan or Churchill would have done, or does it resemble more the policies of Chamberlain, Obama and Biden?
I'm genuinely curious about everyone's opinions & thanks for answers
