Help me plan?

Okay I’m trying to be as organized as I can be here after working on this for months now. I got a working holiday visa for 23 months in New Zealand back in August of last year and purchased a one way in July 30th of this year to go. I need to go before August 11th as it says in my visa if I don’t land in New Zealand before then It will expire and I will not be able to reapply.

So, k know I’m going in winter. I applied to some places on Worldpackers for a volunteer experience and got accepted to one on the South Island. And it’s a good experience but I’m nervous going. You see I’m from Canada and I’m equipped to handle cold weather but I—— kinda don’t want to? I’d rather explore the South Island when it’s nicer like in the summer. However will that make a difference? I see mixed reviews about north and South Island winter weather.

Since this visa is good for 2 years basically, and I’m coming in with $17k and want to use some of that to buy a vehicle to sleep in…. How exactly should I go about planning this, would it be cheaper if I did one year on the north and one year on the south?? Or is that risky. I’m gonna be living as frugally as possible but still may splurge on things like glow worms, white water rafting, para gliding. Am I dreaming too hard? That being said I fully expect to live off of groceries and sleeping in my car or at other volunteer positions etc. and work seasonal jobs.

Some things I like are beach and mountains of course but I’d like to experience ocean. And also the gay scene and community. Things I like to do is go hiking and kayaking/paddleboarding and swimming and just overall exploring cool places.

I don’t know obviously I’ll do what’s right for me but I’d like to hear others opinions. I’m going solo if that adds to anything.
