My lawyer says I owe $270K in medical bills- How can I verify this?
I received a $600,000 settlement offer from a personal injury case. My lawyer takes 33%, he says the medical bills related to my surgery in 2024 are around $270,000
They told me the medical bills are so high because interest has accrued since 2024
I’m trying to verify whether this $270,000 amount is legitimate before I agree to the settlement.
What exactly should I ask my lawyer or the medical provider for to verify this?
Is there anything else I should request?
Also, is it normal for a medical bill from 2024 to grow this substantially because of interest, or should I be concerned that I’m being given an inflated number?
I’m in New York, if that matters.
