Thank you, Hudson, for giving me a glimpse of a Canada I deeply respect
This was my first time ever watching an awards ceremony from beginning to end, including the commercials — and also my first time using a VPN.
As an Asian person who has lived in both the U.S. and France, I’ve had experiences that made me very aware of racial discrimination. So seeing the kind of excitement Hudson Williams has created in North America, and seeing so many Western viewers genuinely appreciate him, honestly felt almost unbelievable to me.
I had heard that Canada tends to be more inclusive, but I was still pleasantly surprised to see an Asian host. I also watched all the commercials carefully, and it felt like there was a lot of Asian representation — maybe around 40%. It genuinely made me happy to see Asian people represented so warmly outside of Asia.
I also really liked the atmosphere of this awards ceremony. Compared with the Oscars, which can sometimes feel very glamorous and celebrity-focused, this one felt warmer, friendlier, and more sincere — like a community of people who truly love film and television coming together to celebrate the arts.
I’m grateful to Hudson for giving me a window into Canadian culture and for making me feel even more fondly toward the country. I sincerely wish Canada continued kindness, openness, and success in every way.
