being a muslim.

ive been seeing this tug of war and hate in this subreddit for a while now and it made me think. what is it really to be a muslim? isnt it to be compassionate, follow the pillars of islam and be tolerant to others no matter how they are? because what i think is were responsible for ourselves, we arent gonna go to jannah if someone else does good. we can only spread dawah to the best of our ability kindly without thinking were better than the other person and leave it upto them to decide. i saw many posts of how some people criticised islam and how some people criticised homosexuality very harshly and with words which were very rough. but doesnt that defeat the point of being a muslim? isnt it said in the quran is that there is no compulsion in religion?

the point of this post is to get feedback from others that how does a good muslim lead life? from what i understand, its to be understanding, kind, tolerant and advise others if they specifically want advice, so no moral policing. along with that the 5 pillars of islam. feel free to correct me if you disagree.
