What Are My Chances for Medical School? Any Recommendations?

Hello everyone,

I’m new to this forum. Recently, I came across some posts on r/premed discussing GPA and MCAT scores, and it honestly made me a little worried about my chances for medical school.

I haven’t applied yet because I decided to take a few gap years to strengthen my experiences and overall application before applying. I’d really appreciate hearing everyone’s thoughts on my current stats and any recommendations on areas I should continue improving to give myself the best possible shot.

Becoming a surgeon has been a lifelong dream of mine, and even after going through undergrad, that goal has never changed. I’m fully committed to making this work.

Background:

-Chemical engineering undergraduate degree, minors in biology and math

-GPA: 3.33

-Recently commissioned as an officer in the military

-Two research experiences, one of which is not medicine related

-Worked in a hospital for about half a year

-MCAT: Haven’t taken it yet but trying to shoot for 500+

-Currently working on gaining more clinical, volunteering, and shadowing hours
