Abandoned fish, advice please.
I picked up a 55 gallon from an unoccupied house that looks like it was falling apart. I'm so grateful the construction guys thought to keep one of the two hang on filters plugged in and had the kindness to post the the tank on Facebook for free. The house door was on the ground and there was no heater in the tank. So the water must have been swinging around pretty badly around 50s Fahrenheit in the cold spring weather.
It turns out that the tank had four little guys who were destined to outgrow the tank. I wasn't really planning on getting large tanks, but these little guys just had the prettiest colors.
There were 2 non-fancy goldfish and 2 Jack Dempsey Cichlids(?). Have I identified these two correctly?
But it seems the Cichlids need a heated tank. And they can be aggressive as they grow up. So how quickly can I warm up the water for them? Should it be slow to avoid shock, or should I warm it up quickly since it seems they are way out of their comfort zone?
And do you think this is a female-male pair? The fin shape and coloring seems a bit different. I hope so, it would be alot easier on me if they were.
