First time in Switzerland & Dolomites – does this 16-day itinerary make sense?
Hi everyone,
I’m planning a 2-person trip in September (first time in Switzerland and Italy) and would love some feedback on our itinerary - just threw these together based on the places we want to see.
We’re really into nature, beautiful landscapes, good food, and a bit of culture, but not heavy museum days. We’re trying to keep a good balance between exploring and not burning out.
Here’s the plan:
Days 1–2: Zurich (arrival)
- Easy start, explore the old town and lake
Days 3–7: Interlaken (base)
- Lauterbrunnen + Mürren
- Jungfraujoch
- Grindelwald
- Kandersteg + Oeschinen Lake
Days 8–9: Zermatt
- Travel day + explore village
- Matterhorn
Day 10: Travel to Milan
Days 11–14: Dolomites (base in Val Gardena)
- Seceda
- Lago di Braies
- Possibly Tre Cime or Alpe di Siusi
Day 15: Drive back to Milan (with a stop, maybe Lake Garda)
- Sleep in Milan, fly back home
Transport plan:
- Trains in Switzerland (likely Swiss Travel Pass)
- Rent a car in Milan for the Dolomites
A few specific questions:
Does the pace look reasonable, or are we trying to do too much?
Would you change anything in the Interlaken/Jungfrau area?
Is Jungfraujoch worth it, or should we skip it and focus elsewhere?
Are 3 full days in the Dolomites enough, or should we shift more time there?
Any must-see stops on the drive from the Dolomites to Milan?
Any general tips for traveling Switzerland on a budget (we plan to mix restaurants with supermarket food)?
Appreciate any tips, tweaks, or “don’t miss this” suggestions. Thanks!
