on Terrified, & Mink’s self actualization journey
Music is the most important thing in my life, and with that being said, Mink genuinely seems like a vessel that could potentially save it from its current state, but this album sounds like a kid you knew in high school’s SoundCloud with <200 followers. It’s a vague watered down version of his true spirit and almost a cautionary tale to other artists about the effects, detriments, & pressures of fame and ego on your output, talent, and personal tastes.
You can tell he didn’t take the process as seriously as he could have, his follow through with “changing music forever” “Yeezus level experimentation” and “a Dante’s inferno 7 levels of Hell concept album” was one of the most pointless hype ups/rollouts of all time. Saying this from a place of love and witness, I dunno shit and im just a human too. But it’s as if the fame/drugs r clouding his judgement and care for the craft. Now all he seems to care about is egocentrism, instead of metabolizing pain into making beauty for the people around him; which got him here in the first place.
you can also tell because he doesn’t seem to pull from any sort of artistic references or palettes except an inaccurate approximation of what his sound actually sounds like. It’s like if a person listened to Londons Saviour and said “How can I create an eerie vibe like this?” without doing any of the work to put any true feeling or soul in there, the work of a true creative yk.
After being a long time listener, fan, and admirer, I was disappointed because I know he can be a Gen Z Kanye if he rlly put his all into it. He’s one of the most talented kids around, he could’ve had live instrumentation, features from his co-signs, ask Frank ocean for songwriting advice/perspective, ANYTHING NEW. He fucking recorded it at Amy Winehouse & The Beatles’ studio for Christ sake. If he is what he says he is, then he should take the time to make it on par with them, bc this ain’t even on par with Carti and he’s ass now too. and inside ik mink got something inexplicable and beautiful. I just can’t wait to see him get back up.
