Get yourself a Kaftan (caftan/muumuu/thobe)
Someone who’s had UC, IBS & lactose intolerance for the past 25+ years, I am intimately familiar with painful bloating.
On days like today, for little to no reason, my abdomen decides it needs to inflate like a balloon. Currently it’s 3 in (7-8 cm) bigger than normal. As you can imagine none of my pants (trousers), are feeling too comfortable right now.
In fact, any kind of pressure at all around my waist is very uncomfortable and can make my symptoms worse.
This also tends to happen in the summer more often because apparently my body hates anything over 65°F (18°C). For anybody who has UC in Europe, South Asia or SE Asia and is dealing with the heat wave, you have my sympathies.
So someone who has experience trying a bunch of different things to try to alleviate my symptoms - get yourself a cotton or linen Kaftan.
The applies to Guys, Gals and non-binary Pals (or Dudes as we call everyone here in California). Regardless of what’s in your pants, the long, loose fabric will help keep you cool in the summer without putting any pressure around your waist, while still giving you easy access in case you need to make a run to the toilet.
It might not be the most fashionable clothing item, you can either choose to not care and go out anyways, or just wear it in the house. Personally, I have run out of F’s to give, so I don’t care and wear mine everywhere.
At the moment, this disease has no cure, but there are ways you can make your life a little easier.
Do you have a kaftan and does it help with symptoms?
