D7 retirees: What do you actually pay to use the SNS after getting residency?
Hi everyone,
I’m researching the D7 process as a retiree and, specifically, what healthcare costs are like after obtaining the residence permit and registering with the Portuguese public healthcare system (SNS).
I have found general information about the SNS, but I’m particularly interested in the actual experience of D7 retirees who are already living in Portugal.
Once a D7 resident has their residence permit and SNS/utente registration:
- Is there any regular fee or contribution that the resident has to pay specifically for access to the SNS?
- If so, how much is it and how often is it paid?
- Are there still any co-payments when using the SNS, for example for a family doctor, specialist, diagnostic tests or hospital care?
- Does anything differ for D7 retirees compared with other legal residents?
I would especially appreciate hearing from D7 retirees who are already living in Portugal, including other Mexicans if possible, and what you actually pay in practice.
Thank you!
