NYPD makes arrests 5 years later for the murder of Aneki(1300?)
NYPD detectives have arrested three men for a 2021 Bronx drive-by shooting in which an 18-year-old was shot and killed and three innocent bystanders were wounded, police said Tuesday.
Nickoy Brown, 20, Jeivany Sterling, 24, and Marlon Smith, 22, were all charged with murder within the last five weeks for the fatal Nov. 17, 2021 shooting on Burke Ave. near Barnes Ave. in Williamsbridge, cops said.
During the 5 p.m. attack, witnesses saw two gunmen firing from inside a passing black SUV. One of the shooters, the driver, reached up through his open window and fired over the roof of his SUV at a group of people on the street.
Aneki Chung, 18, was shot in the head, cops said.
Chung, who had an imitation pistol on him and was the intended target, died five days later at Jacobi Medical Center.
A 15-year-old boy was also hit in the buttocks, a 59-year-old woman was shot in the left thigh and a 26-year-old man who works as a porter at a nearby homeless outreach agency was also hit in the thigh.
After opening fire, the driver of the SUV made a U-turn and sped off, cops said at the time.
The car came by and there were so many shots - I couldn't count, a frightened witness said at the time. I ducked down (to) the floor…I wasn't looking too hard because I don't want to get shot.
The NYPD later released a photo and video of the SUV involved in the drive-by. A motive for the killing was not immediately disclosed.
Following a four-year investigation, detectives arrested Brown on murder charges on April 9, officials said. Sterling was arrested on murder and conspiracy to commit murder on April 30 and Smith was taken into custody on murder charges Monday.
Brown and Sterling have both been indicted for Chung's murder and were ordered held without bail. Smith's arraignment in Bronx Criminal Court was pending Tuesday, officials said.
