Backspace not working - Advice??

I have a Smith Corona Classic 12 and the backspace is not working. When I push it, it tries to move back, but can't go back far enough to stay. Anybody every fix a similar issue? Ideas? Places to look?

I can look at the underside, but from what I can see things are all working and I am not sure what it would look like when it's correctly working anyways to see the difference. Any advice would be appreciated, Thanks!

This may be related to the carriage not sliding to the right either, but I am not sure which problem is the cause and the other a symptom (if they are related).

Help with Smith Corona

Hello! I recently got a Smith Corona Galaxie 12 (brand new to typewriters) and it's not quite functioning perfectly.

The carriage gets stuck sometimes, backspace doesn't work, and the carriage return lever won't actually move the carriage, haha.

The first thing I am addressing is the carriage return lever, when I pull it, it doesn't engage the escapement mechanism at all, the carriage release does work (you can hopefully see this in the video).

Anybody have any videos of a similar or the same typewriter and how this should actually be functioning? I don't actually know what's missing or not hooked up because I don't know how it should look in the first place. Thanks!!
