Claude-skills weekly: academic-research and scientific-agent bundles jumping, opcode looks abandoned, one sleeper for NotebookLM users

I run a tracker that snapshots a few thousand AI/ML repos daily — stars, commits, releases. Pulled the May 10 → May 17 window for Claude-skill / Claude-Code repos. Two bundles broke out, one once-popular GUI looks abandoned, and one sleeper most people haven't seen.

**K-Dense-AI/scientific-agent-skills: +2,664 stars in 7 days (+12.9%)**

20,680 → 23,344. A ready-to-use Agent Skills bundle for research, science, engineering, analysis, finance and writing. Last commit May 18. This is the kind of pre-baked skill pack that gets traction with users who don't want to author skills from scratch. Worth a fork before customizing for your own domain.

**Imbad0202/academic-research-skills: +2,417 stars in 7 days (+39.7%)**

6,084 → 8,501. A narrower, sharper play than the K-Dense bundle. Workflow is research → write → review → revise → finalize, all as Claude Code skills. The +40% week is the kind of breakout that usually means it landed in a popular dev's video or thread; the value is the workflow shape, not any single skill.

**winfunc/opcode: looking abandoned**

21,816 stars, only +43 over 7 days, and **216 days since the last commit**. opcode was a popular GUI for Claude Code — custom agents, interactive sessions, background agents. The stars from the original hype are still there but new growth has flattened and there's been no maintenance in 7 months. If you depend on it for a workflow, worth either forking or moving to an actively-maintained alternative. Same pattern shows on `Maciek-roboblog/Claude-Code-Usage-Monitor` (7,991 stars, last commit 301 days ago).

**Sleeper: joeseesun/qiaomu-anything-to-notebooklm: +1,763 stars (+109%), still under 3.5k**

1,614 → 3,377. Claude Skill that takes WeChat articles, web pages, YouTube, PDF, Markdown or search queries and turns them into NotebookLM-ready inputs — also produces podcast / PPT / mindmap / quiz outputs. Useful niche: people using NotebookLM as a research workspace but tired of manually feeding it sources. Last commit Apr 28 (3 weeks ago) so still under active maintenance.

Data: daily GitHub snapshots, 7-day windows compared to the most recent snapshot at least 7 days prior. Tracker I run at beamforai.com — drop a Claude skill or Claude Code repo in the replies and I'll pull a 30 or 90-day curve.

AI/ML repo deltas, May 10 → 17: ByteDance's UI-TARS desktop up +2.5k, Pathway's llm-app going quiet, plus one sleeper

I run a thing that snapshots a few thousand AI/ML repos daily (stars, forks, commits, releases). Sharing the May 10 → May 17 deltas that stood out: two repos that ran, one that's losing momentum, and one most people haven't found yet.

**bytedance/UI-TARS-desktop: +2,538 stars in 7 days (+8.0%)**

31,737 → 34,275. ByteDance's open multimodal agent stack: vision plus tool-use plus the desktop wrapper. Created Jan 2025, last commit May 18. The 7-day delta is larger than its prior monthly run-rate, which usually signals a release or coverage event. Worth checking if you're evaluating against UI-TARS-1.5 or Computer Use style agents.

**D4Vinci/Scrapling: +2,188 stars in 7 days (+4.5%)**

48,300 → 50,488. Python adaptive scraping framework. Less hyped than Firecrawl (which also moved +2,310 same window but sits at 121k), but Scrapling is what I see Python agent devs reach for when they want local rather than hosted. Last commit May 16. MIT licensed, single-request to full-crawl in the same API.

**pathwaycom/llm-app: going dormant**

Net star loss of about 50 over 7 days. 59,712 → 59,698. Last commit Jan 7, so 133 days idle. Pathway was one of the early "live-data RAG" frameworks (S3/Drive/Sharepoint sync templates) and the parent `pathway` repo is still active, but `llm-app` looks deprioritized. If you vendored these templates, worth checking your fork against upstream stalls before relying on them in prod.

**Sleeper: golemcloud/golem: +488 stars (+49.3%), still under 1.5k**

990 → 1,478. Rust-based durable execution runtime for agents, designed so a run survives crashes, retries, and restarts without losing state. Same problem space as Temporal but built on WASI components. Created Nov 2023, real company behind it. Most people I see building agents either hand-roll durability or skip it; worth knowing this exists before writing the third version of your save-state-to-Postgres wrapper.

Data: daily GitHub snapshots, 7-day windows compared to the most recent snapshot at least 7 days prior. If anyone wants a 30 or 90-day curve on a specific repo, reply with the full name and I'll pull it.

Another Chinese AI tool takes over the market

I don’t know why but I am pretty scared to use this tool hahaha.

From the description it truly looks amazing, I strongly recommend checking it out (on translation of course)

It has full AI orchestration layer, microservices architecture, different designers. Pretty awesome.

Do you know if it’s “safe” to use a tool like this? If there can be some kind of data breach? Did someone use it?

There's An AI For That - Alternatives for those who are overwhelmed

Been using TAAFT for a while and I still think it’s one of the strongest AI discovery platforms out there. Huge database, fast search, and it’s usually the easiest way to find tools for almost any niche.

Lately I started checking a few alternatives though, mostly because sometimes TAAFT can feel a bit overloaded when you want more curated or structured discovery.

A few interesting ones I found:

  • There’s An AI For That (TAAFT) - still best for breadth and fast search.
  • Toolify -similar directory vibe, but decent for browsing trending/new tools.
  • TopAI.tools - feels lighter and easier to scan if you don’t want information overload.
  • BeamForAI - less of a pure directory and more focused on AI ecosystem discovery.

TAAFT is still my default, but I feel like newer platforms are experimenting more with curation, niche discovery, and making it easier to actually manage the tools you care about instead of just endlessly browsing.

Did anyone use this Chinese AI tool for daily stock trading??

It's been trending on Beam for more than a week and looks like it's only gathering more and more attention.

It uses LLM-driven agents to digest news, market data, and sentiment into a dashboard.

"I've built the next money-making skill for you"

What are we going to do with the endless "I've created the best next skill for Cluade"?

I mean, I am sure there are great skills out there and some of you made great job, but I just keep seeing vibe coders make the same thing over and over again trying to be the next hero.

What's up with this crazy motivation?
