The cat after your soul cat

What’s it like? How long do you wait to get the next cat? Do you compare them to the old cat? Do they ever seem to love you as much? And weirdly specific, but do you use the same little generic cat nicknames (like munchkin or baby) or are those verboten?

I really really want a cat, until I fear I just want my old cat.

ETA: thank you everyone for your heartfelt stories and advice. So many wonderful kitties and so much unconditional love in this comment section; and so much hope, as well.

I lost my little bean two years ago, shortly before a move to a new country. My last landlord staunchly hated pets, so I had nothing but time to ponder what I would do in some new apartment at some later date. That time has arrived: I have a new place and a new landlord who *seems* much more amenable to kitties. Once I am sure, I will go to the nearest shelter and just ... see what happens.

In the meantime, here's (still) to Kitty: 🍻
