Biting/ jumping while sitting on recliner.
Hello everyone, I have a 4 MO Shepherd mix. Not entirely sure exactly what makes that is yet waiting on a DNA test.
Anyway I’ve had her for a little over a month (adopted at 12 weeks old) and have been working with her tirelessly to curb some of the biting and overall bad puppy habits.
Background/ current training:
She is crate trained… mostly. She won’t go into the crate by herself to relax. She does need some coaxing still. And she is on a very strict one hour awake to one hour/hour and a half asleep just basically depends on how tired she is. She wakes up anywhere between 630 and 730 and goes to bed at nine, which works really well with my work schedule because I am able to work from 7 to 4 most of the time I work from home however, there are some days during the week where I have to go in in which case she’ll stay with my mom.
Issue:
An issue I haven’t been able to curb her of is jumping/biting me when I sit in a recliner. When I sit in a regular chair, she doesn’t bother me when I sit on the couch she will jump on the couch next to me which I don’t mind as long as she doesn’t bite me however, whenever I sit on the recliner anywhere she is in the house. I will hear her at full gallop, then take a flying leap right into my stomach.
I’ll then tell her the “OFF” command, which she will listen for the most part however, I’ll have to physically get up and move her off of me then I wait her out until she has four paws on the floor then she will get a reward.
I have to do this for basically 30 minutes to an hour while I’m sitting in the chair and eventually I’ll just give up and I’ll keep standing until she gets Close to her nap time then I’ll go outside have her pee, etc. etc.
She’ll also do this in those outside lounge chairs basically anytime I’m not sitting or standing upright is when she will take her chance to bounce on me. It’s like a 20 pound cannonball to the gut lol.
Any advice or training videos would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. This sub has honestly helped me so much cried a lot the first 2 weeks with her but she’s getting better everyday. Now I can focus on specific behaviors I want her to have now that we have a routine in place.
