Why do male friendships feel more temporary in adulthood?

As I get older, I’m noticing that many of my male friendships become distant once those friends enter serious relationships. I understand boundaries and I’m not upset about it, but it’s making me reflect on how differently friendships are maintained across genders.

It sometimes feels like women are more likely to sustain emotionally close friendships even while dating, while many men seem to center their romantic relationship as their main emotional connection.

Has anyone else experienced this as they got older? Is this just a normal part of adulthood and changing priorities, or is it also connected to how men and women are socialized differently around friendship and intimacy?
