Went to my local trek store to buy a checkpoint today. Test rode a checkpoint ALR 5 in size 52 and the guy said it looked right on me (I'm 5'1), that it matched me on the size chart, and that it wouldn't make sense to go any smaller.
I had some reservations about it feeling wobbly, the seat being uncomfortable, and not being able to reach the pedals, so they sawed a bit off to get the seat lower and said I'd get used to it. Having not owned a gravel bike before I trusted their judgement, but now I've been reading around I'm worried this bike is way too big for me.
Are there any other smaller women who prefer a 52 for whatever reason, or am I not even in the right ballpark?

Edit: Thank you so much everyone! Glad to know I'm not going crazy. I'll take the bike back next weekend and am now leaning towards ordering a newer model in XS which should be closer to a 47-48 (since they don't have anything smaller in-store). Unfortunately the newer model is a downgrade, but the only other option is to drive 3.5 hours to get a 49 that might still be too big. Hopefully I'm right in assuming that fit is more important than hardware!
