Toddler unbuckling crotch buckle!
Help please!
I’m a nanny in the US and my 2.5 yr old kiddo(30lbs, rear facing only) has learned to unbuckle the crotch buckle.
She has discovered that if we hear a click or if she says she’s unbuckled(even if she hasn’t), we will stop the car and do a safety check. She gets excited to see us. We’ve tried saying STOP(our safety word) and it works occasionally but at times she will still say “I unbuckle my seat” even when she hasn’t.
She is very smart and understands that her grownups are here to help keep her safe. We have also started the conversations of “(kids name)’s job is to keep her body safe also” and that we only say things that are true. (Caveat: as a professional childcare provider for over 5 years, I know “true vs untrue is a difficult thing for a 2.5yr old to grasp, but we’re trying everything to help her understand what is safe.)
Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated!!
