Hey everyone,
We just finished a 25-minute narrative/experimental short and we're looking for a co-producer or co-distributor based outside of Israel who'd want to come on board with us for the festival run.
Quick synopsis: Elisha wakes to a crumbling reality. The wind never stops blowing, the sand keeps accumulating — on his bed, in his coffee, burying everything. Medea arrives, his long-lost love, elegant and alive, trying to reach through. In a world where everything falls apart, could anything last?
A very high end production, shot on Arri Alexa, the lead is Ariel Bronz (Yes! Nadav Lapid's films), and we have several Ophir Award winners and Jerusalem Film Festival names attached. It's fully independent. No state funding, no government money, nothing from any Israeli institution. We paid for everything ourselves. Part of our crew was Palestinian, and we shot in Jisr az-Zarqa, which is a Palestinian village on the coast.
Here's the honest part of why I'm posting. We're Israeli, and we are completely opposed to our government and to the war. We're out at the protests every week. We don't want this film to travel as an Israeli film or to be read as a submission representing the state, because it isn't, and because we don't want it to be. What we want is for it to exist as an independent international work, which is what it actually is. That's why we're looking for a partner from another country to join us as a co-distributor, so the film can be presented that way honestly.
To be clear about what this involves on your end — there's no financial investment needed. The film is done. We've already set aside a generous budget for festival submissions and we're sending it out to around 30 major festivals at our own expense. We're looking for someone who wants to partner with us on the distribution side and whose involvement lets the film travel as the genuinely international co-production it already is in spirit, ideally someone who shares where we're coming from on all of this.
If this sounds like something you'd want to talk about, shoot me an email at eyal0roe@gmail.com. Ill send you the film and after watching it, we'll set up a Zoom, get to know each other, and decide how to continue
Thanks for reading.
