Adding Shower, Found 1.5” Pipe
I’m renovating our half bath to add a shower. After I removed the drywall and linoleum I found capped water lines in the wall and a covered drain line with p trap in the floor. The room is pretty small, not big enough for a tub. The drain line is 1.5” and as far as I know it is functioning properly.
The code where I am states that shower drain lines should be 2” from flange to where it connects to the main drain line, the exception being that a shower drain can be connected to a 1.5” drain line if doing a tub-to-shower conversion and it creates a bunch of extraneous work to convert the drain line to 2”.
I’d like to avoid busting up more concrete if a 1.5” drain will function properly. Technically I’m not doing a tub-to-shower conversion but the 1.5” line already exists. What do I do?
