The Journey of a Heart

*Context: I am writing a poem for my girlfriend. She will soon be going back to her home country and so we will sadly have to say goodbye to each other. I wanted to make her something special to say goodbye and I've written poems before so this seemed like a good shout. Let me know what you think and if I should make any edits before giving it to her.*

My heart has a journey.
It has a beginning, middle and an end.
It formed, shattered, and now it’s on the mend.

My heart has a journey.
It’s a story of three women, effecting change in different ways.
Most important of all: You. You who set my heart ablaze.

My heart has a journey.
Starting before birth, the one who grew my heart when our hearts would beat as one.
We had our struggles but I felt loved as her son.

My heart has a journey.
It’s not always been a happy book.
There was the one I gave my everything to, just to be kept on the hook.

My heart has a journey.
I was alone for a while, and honestly, that was okay.
But then I met you…on St. Patrick’s Day.

My heart has a journey.
And you were the chapter I didn’t see coming.
The more time I spent with you, the more I felt the pain…numbing.

My heart has a journey.
And it was beginning to heal.
Every story told, every look into your eyes, made our love more real.

My heart has a journey.
And while it’s far from complete.
I’ll always treasure you as someone who showed me love can be:
Safe, Secure, Concrete.
