An odd riff on the paper plane that I'm surprised I ended up liking. I'm sure there is better Kirschwasser brands out there, but this is the only brand I could find in my area.
Die Luftwaffe:
-1oz Kirsch
-3/4oz Jagermeister
-3/4oz Aperol
-3/4oz Lemon Juice
Shaken hard, briefly.
This makes a sweet and pleasantly tart cocktail. Where the bourbon in a paper plane would add spice and smokey flavors, instead, the Kirschwasser gives a sweet, nutty flavor. While it has a much lighter presence on the tongue, it has an intriguing, floral scent I really enjoyed in the combination. The jagermeister adds piney, minty flavors and a powerful herbal finish.
I apologize for the terrible picture. I originally sent the photo to a bartender friend to show what an abomination of a drink I had made, but was very surprised when I ended up enjoying the drink.
The ratio probably needs some tweaking to make it a better balanced cocktail, or could even use another ingredient to impart some possibly needed bitterness. Let me know what you think on that, so I can make some tweaks for the next time.
