Hi everyone,

I’m trying to understand the exact timing for applying for British citizenship after getting ILR.

If someone was granted UK ILR on 20 May 2025, and they are applying for naturalisation under the standard route where they need to have held ILR for 12 months, can they submit the citizenship application on 20 May 2026, or would they need to wait until 21 May 2026?

I’m unsure whether “12 months after ILR” means the anniversary date itself is okay, or whether the full 12 months only completes at the end of 20 May 2026.

Has anyone had experience with this, or know how UKVI treats the application date?
