I'm writing a fanfic of Jurassic Park, set in 1999, after the events of The Lost World (1997), being an alternative timeline.

I want to draw inspiration from the JP novels to write it, so basically doing a lot of scientific research and other stuff. How can i research for things like the late 90s politics, economics, science, technology, etc, and also about scientific subjects such as paleontology, biology, genetics, urbanization, etc?

I know that not everyone is a scientist who knows all these subjects, i'm just specifying in case someone has a specific tip for these subjects. The overall question is just: how to do research?
