This is the most annoying question type
Why is this not the same as the story response? I really don't understand why you're required to literally input a specific response. Like if I responded "Ella va a ver una pelicula" it would be wrong despite getting across the same message. The worst part is that the answer is already in the question. The response to this is "ver una pelicula", encouraging laziness and just copy pasting an existing response. It's so poorly planned out. When you're developing an educational tool, you want to encourage trial and error, and creative curiosity. That's what the story response feature does. It gives you the reins to craft a unique response based on your existing knowledge.
This is a very powerful educational method because it combines memory, and your ability to apply that knowledge efficiently and accurately. This is why it's so important to have longer responses as part of the learning experience. You can work out the kinks in your talent by failing, and recognizing where you failed. It trains the part of your brain that recognizes the context of what you're saying as well. The longer the response, the more important context is to the next sentence for consistency. It forces you to remember the sentences you wrote previously, and build on them in live time. That gets your brain thinking in Spanish instead of thinking in english and translating into Spanish.
What Duolingo is doing here is neglecting a very important part of the educational process in favor of outdated, traditional educational methods. You are being punished for thinking about the question, and coming up with a response that feels like your own. Massive wasted potential. It also makes the user feel like they are struggling or failing, or like their response might've been invalid, when it was accurate.
