Homeless due to house fire
Hey Reddit,
I own a home and it caught fire. My tenants are now homeless with no where to go. I feel so sorry for them and are trying to help them back on their feet the best I can. They don’t have renters insurance so essentially lost everything other than what they had in the bedroom and vehicles because the rest of the house has fire damage. The Red Cross came out and did their thing and give them a little money to hold them over for a few days. Their number one priority is to find a new place to stay because they both have jobs. Do ya’ll know any organization in the Bay Area that can help them? Thank you in advance.
Edit: wow some of you are hella toxic. If I was rich and money wasn’t an issue I would 100% help them. I don’t drive fancy cars or live a lavish life style. Everything I own I worked very hard (manual labor) for and scraped and saved in order to afford them. I am retired and is on a fixed income. I too have daily expenses, property tax, insurance, and ECT. Not all landlords are rich dipshits slumlord. Believe it or not there are kind, caring, and understanding landlords out there. A little background, the tenants have live at my property for a decade. They don’t always pay rent on time but I always am understanding of other people’s situations and we always work out some kind of agreement/ payment plan. FYI they actually still owe in back rent. That’s is the least of my worries as of now. I am fortunate to have insurance on the home and probably have enough to pay for reconstruction even though materials and labor for rebuilding has skyrocketed but we will see. I’m not here for snarky comments. I’m here for guidance, support, resources, and suggestions on how best to help them. The cause of the fire has not been officially determined yet but it looks like it started in the kitchen.
