When you're going through the application process, use a throw away phone number. I.e. go to the store and get a SIM card that you will use for this and only this. Don't use a phone number affiliated to any of your work or personal accounts/devices.

I did so and luckily did so because my information was leaked to the Russians. Still dont know how they got it. If it was state migration services or who. So just a heads up.

Note, yes I know it was due to the application due to contents of the phishing message that was sent to me. All more the reason why people should take things like cyber awareness more serious. So...
