Fair Play or League Betrayal??

Trying to type this out as objectively as I can, keep in mind the 4th place player was our commissioner.

I've played in a competitive Draft style EPL league for over 10 years now with a bunch of friends. I was in second going into the last game week. IF I won my matchup and first place lost his matchup I would be the regular season champ.

The morning of the last game week, the 4th seed (who was playing the first seed who i needed to lose) decided to tank and remove all his players, thus ending any chance I had. His reasoning was that it set himself up for a better matchup for the playoffs. This is the FIRST time since we started the league that anyone has intentionally tanked, and he told me that "technically there was no rule preventing him from doing so". There is a CASH prize for the team that comes in 1st for the regular season. I won my matchup and 4th would of beat first if he played straight up.

Fast forward to the playoffs where the bracket has now been manipulated. the 4th place player loses first round. I lose in the second round. If he didn't tank in the last game week I would of won the entire league.

Am I wrong to think this should have never been allowed since we went 10+ years with everyone playing straight up. If tanking/empty lineups were considered legal strategy all along, league members would have made different decisions throughout the season.

The league was split (those who still had a chance to win obviously were not on my side) and basically told me it was a smart strategy but something we can look to vote out NEXT season.

While I agree it is a smart move, I disagree with the fact that he got an unfair advantage over all others who assumed we played by a different set of rules.

This one move cost me the regular season ($100), my second ring and a playoff payout ($1500)

What do you think? Fair game or foul play?
