[TOMT] Trying to identify a late 80s/early 90s female dance-pop song with a big sax solo
Trying to identify a late 80s / early 90s dance-pop song I used to hear on the radio constantly.
What I’m confident about:
- Female singer or layered/group female vocals
- Medium-fast dance-pop / club groove
- Glossy/fancy production style
- DEFINITELY had a real flashy sax solo
- Sexy/playful/funky vibe
- Probably heard it around 1989–1991
The songs it MOST reminds me of are:
- Taylor Dayne – “Prove Your Love”
- Taylor Dayne – “Tell It to My Heart”
- Amii Stewart – “Knock on Wood”
- Madonna – “Hanky Panky”
- Lisa Stansfield – “All Around the World”
So it’s somewhere in that dance-pop / disco-funk / soulful club-pop universe.
The lyrics are very fuzzy and could be completely wrong, but I vaguely remember fragments like:
- “ain’t nothin’ love…”
The rhythm/melody I remember most is something like:
“da-da-da, da-da-da-dow, da-da-dow, da-da-dow-dow”
The sax solo is the BIGGEST clue. It wasn’t just background horns — it was a prominent flashy sax feature.
Songs/artists already ruled out:
- Chaka Khan – “Ain’t Nobody”
- Shannon – “Let the Music Play”
- Exposé
- Cover Girls
- Bananarama
- Paula Abdul
- Samantha Fox
- Black Box
- Sheila E – “The Glamorous Life”
- Lisa Lisa
- Real McCoy – “Another Night”
- Nu Shooz – “I Can’t Wait”
- Berlin – “No More Words”
- Sandra – “In the Heat of the Night”
Any ideas?
