SNAP Time Limits Affected You? Share Your Story

Have SNAP time limits affected you or someone in your household? We want to hear from you.

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) imposes a strict time limit on individuals classified as Able-Bodied Adults Without Dependents. Under this policy, individuals may receive SNAP benefits for only three months within a three-year period unless they document an average of at least 20 hours per week of work. On July 4, 2025, legislation, known as H.R. 1, expanded these time limits to include adults up to age 65, parents, grandparents, or caregivers of children ages 14 or older, veterans, adults experiencing homelessness, and youth aging out of foster care

The Food Research & Action Center (FRAC) is collecting stories from SNAP participants impacted by the time limits.  We're interested in hearing about  the challenges SNAP participants are facing in meeting this requirement  and/or how it has impacted their access to SNAP.  We also want to hear your perspective on why food assistance for people struggling to put food on the table shouldn't have a time limit.

Your story may be used in FRAC communications and advocacy materials, including social media graphics, to help show the real-world impact of SNAP time limits. With your permission, we may identify your story by first name and state (for example, “Steve from Ohio”).

Please do NOT share your name, location, contact information, or other personally identifiable information in this Reddit post or in the comments. If you’d like to share your experience, please use our secure story collection form instead:
