After reading a lot on this topic, the following question arises.

In recent years, there has been an effort to demystify the Spartans as the best Greek soldiers, based on sheer effectiveness on the battlefield (at least in heavy infantry).

Could we say that the best Greek soldiers were the Athenians or the Theban Sacred Band?
