Would a Radiography Program Accept Me Again After a Previous Unsuccessful Attempt?

I could really use some advice from current radiography students, graduates, or anyone involved in admissions.

Last year, I applied to my radiography program with a 4.0 GPA in the required courses and a 77 HESI score. I was accepted into an accelerated 8-week program, which is not the traditional route at my school. Unfortunately, I struggled academically and did not perform well.

This year, I applied again. I still have a 4.0 GPA in all of the required prerequisite courses, and I improved my HESI score from a 77 to a 91.

The part I’m struggling with is wondering whether the program will give me another chance. Some of my former classmates have told me to be confident because the instructors already know me, know that I am respectful, and know how badly I want this career. However, I keep thinking about how poorly I performed during my previous attempt and whether that will outweigh the improvements I’ve made.

I was always respectful to my instructors, but there were times when I felt like one of them doubted whether I could successfully complete the program. I even had a conversation with her about how that made me question myself and whether I belonged in radiography at all.

If you’ve been involved in admissions or have seen students reapply after struggling academically, how much weight is usually given to improvement and growth? Would my previous performance likely hurt my chances, or could my improved HESI score and continued academic success work in my favor?
