Making it work
Hey everyone, this is more of rant than anything but I would love to know your thoughts.
I got a new instructor job closer to home and I’m very much having trouble with this group.
The high school has a population of 1,200 students with a band size of around 30 (sports, band and show choir all compete with getting kids in) and this year the director decided to split the band up into 2 bands, a Friday night band and a competition band. (The Friday night band was made for students who wanted to join but couldn’t cause of a busy schedule with other sports and activities)
To me, this is only going to make things worse, number wise. Where the band is struggling with getting kids involved in the program and the feeder not really helping in any way, I’m not sure what the goal would even be.
The percussion section has 2 instructors, me and my wife who have come from a bigger band with a much fuller percussion section. We had our first 2 clinics with only 5 kids total for the front and drumline.
What should be next best course of action for both of us?
Thank you all in advance
