24M | Sole breadwinner | College degree delayed, considering an MBA in Project Management. Is an MBA the right move?
Hey everyone,
I’m reaching out because I’m facing a bit of a quarter-life crisis regarding my career and financial future, and I could really use some objective, brutal honesty and guidance.
My Situation:
- Age/Gender: 24M.
- Education: Graduated with a BA from a government college in Patna. However, my final degree is currently stuck due to an internal college exam issue. It should finally be resolved in the next 2–3 months.
- Family/Responsibility: I am the only earning man in my household. I have three sisters (two are married). The pressure to provide a stable, growing income for my family is entirely on my shoulders.
Because of the degree delay and the weight of financial responsibility, my mental health has been taking a massive hit. I feel incredibly insecure about my future and confused about which path to take.
My Current Plan/Thought Process: I am strongly considering pursuing an MBA, specifically specializing in Project Management (or potentially Business Analytics/AI, as I want to get into a scalable, high-growth sector).
Because I need to keep earning and can't afford to take 2 years completely off without income, I am trying to weigh my options between preparing for competitive exams, looking into specialized online/distance MBAs, or trying to break into the corporate world through entry-level roles first.
What I need help with:
- Is an MBA in Project Management a viable path for a BA graduate? Will the corporate world accept this transition, and what kind of starting packages can I realistically expect in India?
- Given my financial responsibilities, should I look into Online/Distance MBAs, or is a traditional corporate entry-level job a better starting point?
- What skills should I actively start building right now during the 2-3 months while I wait for my degree issue to clear up?
- If you were in my shoes—needing a stable, scalable income with a BA background—what industry or role would you pivot into?
I’m feeling pretty lost, so any roadmaps, harsh truths, or success stories from people who started in a similar place would mean the world to me. Thanks in advance.
