ORIF surgery today

Hi all,

Background: Fell on vacation May 10 (Italy) and got a trimalleolar fracture in my right ankle as a souvenir :) flew back to Canada May 12.

Today: ORIF surgery done this morning approximately 10 hours ago.

I would like to say I have pretty high pain tolerance but when I got casted for the first time in Italy… not sure if this is normal but I was awake and when the doctor kept my foot in 90 degrees… I yelped/bawled in pain. I had no pain medication, and waited in emerg 4 hours with only an ice pack (which had long since melted) and without being told, kept my foot up on a seat in front of me lol. Needless to say, I’m quite traumatized by that experience.

I’ve been reading Reddit posts and I’m scared shitless of what’s to come my way pain wise when the nerve block wears off… I’ve taken 2 Extra Strength Tylenols and 1 hydromorphone (1mg) to try to beat the pain lol but that’s about it.

Leg is elevated. Extremely numb, can’t wiggle my toes but I feel sensation when I touch.

Not knowing what to expect is killing me lol. How bad will this pain be :(
