For UK people, how important were gcse's when finding you a job?

This year has been the most un-serious year for gcse. I have no motivation to revise, I think i will pass barely but I feel like now im near the end im just glad to be nearly out if school, it was fun to be honest but I dont think theres been enough pressure on the importance of GCSE or maybe theres even an exaggeration on the importance of gcse's.

What is the point of English literature?

Critical thinking blah blah blah, thats just filler words for saying its useless because theres not much critical thinking when 90% of the stuff we learn is stuff we need to revise at home like macbeth and loads of quotes from poems. That isnt critical thinking? Id prefer if we were just given a poem or extract without having to use a quote or that we learn and just annotate it in a paragraph and explain everything in depth. Does this make sense? I guess im just saying unseen poetry is the most important part in lit. I feel like history gcse is more literature than literature
