Help identifying the font used on this 1975 Afrosound album cover
I’m trying to identify the font used in this 1975 Afrosound album cover. The text says “THE AFROSOUND” and it has this bold curved tropical/psychedelic 70s look.
What’s driving me crazy is that I KNOW I’ve seen this style in a lot of places before. It feels very familiar. The closest references I’ve found are fonts like Balloon, Dom, and BrushType Bold Italic, but none of them are exactly it. This one feels more exaggerated, playful, and hand-drawn.
Does anyone recognize it or know any fonts that are VERY close? Even obscure references or old phototype catalogs would help a lot. Thanks!
