My grandpa (69), approx. 1m70, now 70~kg has pancreatic cancer, need some insight
Very important I really need someone’s help here.
I’ll try to keep this as short and clear as possible I summarised my story with ChatGPT because I'm a chaotic writer (but it's accurate).
At the end of October 2025, my grandpa started losing his appetite. Normally, he was a strong and robust man weighing around 115 kg, so this was unusual. The loss of appetite continued for weeks until, sometime in mid-November, he finally went to his GP. The doctor thought it might just be a slow-functioning stomach and told him to wait a bit and come back later if things didn’t improve.
He waited, but nothing changed. In the first week of December, he went back to the doctor, who then advised him to go to the hospital. Around that same time, my great-grandmother (93 years old) passed away, so December became consumed by funeral arrangements, administration, and paperwork for my grandparents.
After New Year’s, in early 2026, my grandpa finally went to the hospital so they could examine his stomach. However, they couldn’t proceed because his stomach was still full, so they told him to come back two weeks later. Even after not eating for two days before the next appointment, his stomach was still not empty.
At that point, he insisted they keep him there instead of sending him home again. He was admitted, and they emptied his stomach. About a week later, they examined him properly and discovered that food could not pass normally from his stomach into the small intestine.
Another week later, after additional scans, they diagnosed him with pancreatic cancer. By then, it was already nearly mid-February 2026.
He was given several options. The one he chose was surgery to create a new connection between the stomach and small intestine so he could eat more normally again. He refused other options, including a feeding bag with a tube.
Roughly two weeks after the surgery, which was successful, and after having a chemo port placed in his chest, he was finally able to begin chemotherapy.
By March, he started a very aggressive chemotherapy treatment through injections. Between March and the end of April, he underwent six chemo sessions in total.
During the first few treatments, he mainly lost hair but was otherwise doing relatively okay. He could eat properly again for a while. But after around the third chemo session, things started going downhill. His appetite decreased again, and the weight loss became much more noticeable. He dropped from 115 kg to around 80 kg.
Now we are nearing the middle of May, and since the start of this month he has barely eaten any proper meals at all, only very small portions. Drinking is not really a problem; he still drinks a lot. But eating has become very difficult for him.
The final chemo treatment also made him extremely sick, according to him.
I also noticed that after the fifth chemo session, he became much more tired. At first, he would only sleep from midday until around 3 PM, but now he sleeps until 4 or 5 PM and barely gets out of bed at all. He no longer has the strength to walk far distances, becomes short of breath easily, and mostly just wants to sleep. He only weighs in at 74 kg now, but it has stabilised since the start of May, even though he doesn't eat much...
