Hi, everyone. I am not Catholic, but a close friend of mine is, and they recently asked me to “light a candle” for them. I’m vaguely familiar with the idea, but I want to do this for them because I know it means a lot to them. Is there any specific practice or routine I should follow in doing this? Does the type of candle I use matter? I’d like also to say a prayer for my friend over the events they have that are stressing them. Does it matter if this is done before vs after the lighting of the candle? Am I to pray to God, Jesus, or Mary? Is there any particular way I should pray? I apologize as I’m really not familiar with Catholic practices and I want to make sure I honor the religion. Thank you in advance.
