My wife and I are in our early 30s, she's starting grad school at NYU later this year and I'm transferring to the Long Island office of my company. Any suggestions where we can live and both have a somewhat reasonable commute?

As much as part of me wants to live in Brooklyn, Queens seems more convenient. Maybe Forest Hills, or Jamaica so I can easily catch the LIRR? Further out? I'd like to still live in a place that is walkable and urban. If anyone has input on these neighborhoods I'd appreciate it. I'd prefer to take the train to work but will probably keep my car as a backup option.
