How bad is South Baker / the West Campus Gothics really?

Hi everyone! I’m an incoming junior international transfer student and I was assigned a super single in South Baker Hall for Fall 2026.

Since I’m new to Cornell and don’t know the campus very well yet, I’m trying to decide whether to accept the on-campus housing license or look for an off-campus studio instead. I’ve heard mixed things about the West Campus Gothics: some people say they’re old and inconvenient, while others say living on campus is worth it, especially for transfers.

I haven’t signed the license yet, so I still have some flexibility. Any honest advice about gothics/west campus experience would be appreciated. Thanks!
