How do professional traders survive when their strategy loses its edge?
For traders who built their career around basically one trading system/edge:
What did you do when that edge stopped working?
Right now my strategy works, but I keep thinking about what happens when market conditions change and it completely loses profitability.
I hear people say “edges don’t last forever,” but finding one edge already takes a long time. So I’m curious how experienced traders handle this.
- Do you constantly adapt the same system?
- Do you rotate between multiple strategies?
- How do you know whether an edge is temporarily underperforming vs actually dead?
- And when an edge dies, how long does it usually take you to find another one?
Would especially like to hear from people who’ve traded full-time or survived multiple market cycles.
