Do they help substantially with future interview applications and actual positions? Also, when should I start too look into them (timeline wise), and what am I expected to know? (like d much coding experience expected, etc.)
Title. I'm new to this subreddit, so one thing I'm confused about is how internships work. Because you have to apply so early, are people expected to land these roles after freshman year, or are 2nd and 3rd years the norm?
I also have no CS experience nor an extensive math background (just calc bc), so I'm feeling pretty behind. However, I'm an incoming freshman at a HYPSM university, which I don't really know if it plays a big factor in recruiting. Should I just learn python and review relevant math topics over the summer (combinatorics, stats, etc.). My biggest concern is that I simply didn't start soon enough compared to the IMO medalists that everyone seems to talk about. Any advice or information would be helpful.
