Switched from Canon to Sony (A6700 + 200-600) — looking for lens advice

Hey everyone,

after around six months of photography, I recently switched from Canon to Sony because I was pretty frustrated with the lens selection on the Canon side.

I picked up an A6700 together with the Sony FE 200-600 and so far I absolutely love the setup. The image quality and autofocus have been amazing for wildlife and sports stuff.

That said, the 200-600 obviously isn’t exactly an “always attached” kind of lens because of the size, so I’m currently looking for something more practical to take with me to university, on the train, when visiting friends, general everyday use, etc.

I’ve been looking at a few lenses that I can currently get for pretty good prices and wanted to ask if any of you have experience with them, especially on APS-C bodies like the A6700:

  • Sony 70-350 G — €450
  • Sony 70-200 f/4 Gen 1 — €800
  • Sony 24-105 f/4 — €549
  • Sony 90mm f/2.8 Macro — €600 (separate topic because I also want to get into macro photography)

I already know that something like the 24-105 obviously isn’t directly comparable to the 70-350, but I’m mainly trying to figure out what actually makes the most sense as a companion lens to the 200-600.

For example: does it even make sense to get the 70-350 when I already own the 200-600, or would something like the 70-200 make more sense overall? Or maybe even the 24-105 as a true everyday lens? My Main Focus would still be on wildlife photography at least 70%

I’d really appreciate hearing from people who have actually used these lenses on APS-C and what you would personally recommend, especially considering the prices.

I’m mainly looking at Sony lenses because I still have the Welcome to Alpha cashback bonus available, so I can save a bit more money there.

And yes, I know Sigma and Tamron make a lot of really interesting alternatives, but at the moment I can’t get those nearly as cheap as the Sony options above, so for now I’m mostly considering Sony glass.

Thanks in advance!
