Blue tits nest behaviour
I’ve a nest box which I have had for years (with camera). Generally get successful broods in. This year, it’s been carnage. I saw her pick up and drop a chick multiple times yesterday, I assume it had died and she was cleaning up. I thought the rest seemed ok but a bit lethargic, not a lot of begging. Checked this morning- all just disappeared! She keeps coming in, sitting in the nest, ruffling herself up and pecking at the bedding. What on earth could have happened? It’s been/is bloody cold especially overnight. Could this have been lack of insects? Inexperienced parents (dad was a bit ham fisted!), poison from pet fur? It’s horrible…seeing her still in the box, acting as though they are still there. The camera boxes are both fascinating and stressful!
But any insight would be great
