Barn Swallow Nests Fell
We had a bad storm last night in New Jersey and two barn swallow nests fell (not at my house - near the beach I go to). Before I got there, someone put all 4 of the babies together on the ground with the two nests next to them. Both nests’ parents were still nearby (1 baby didn’t make it). I put both nests up (same ledge but separate from each other) and the babies back in one nest because I didn’t know which babies belonged to which nest and the other nest was falling apart.
The baby who died was significantly smaller than the others, but I couldn’t tell a size different with the others. The third one I put up (a little separate from the others in the picture) may be slightly younger because it couldn’t move as much when I picked it up. It’s a little separate because I didn’t want the other two to get scared and fall when I put the third one up.
I waited for 10 minutes and parents seemed to be chasing each other away from the nest. Any guidance on what I should do?
When I go back later I can try to move the one over to the other nest, but I’m not positive it’s not the same mom as the other ones.
