[UPDATE] Footcream 1.8.0 – Nothing fancy, just better

[UPDATE] Footcream 1.8.0 – Nothing fancy, just better

Your favorite unit converter Footcream is now reaching 1.8.0!

  • Books are now scanned and converted more than 4 times faster. A lengthy book (eg. DDC) has gone from 100 seconds to a mere 24 seconds (on a Kobo Libra 2).
  • The conversion progress UI is less annoying and obtrusive, it now just shows you what you need to see.
  • The plugin and it's menus are now translated to 30 languages (follows KOReader's language setting) It still only handles units in English. Further content coverage besides English is out of scope as of now. If something is not translated correctly, check the repo to contribute via Crowdin.
  • 10 conversion errors from user reports are fixed. Keep on reporting missed or incorrect units! Also, keep reporting any other issues via GitHub.

[UPDATE] Glimpse 1.3.0 - Zoom your heart away!

Glimpse 1.3.0

A big update since 1.2.0! I've read up on your feedback and I have also added what I personally want to see when reading.

Bookmarked pages join the Gallery, the image filter got smarter, zoom got more flexible, and the whole viewer feels quicker and more polished. I've also put a lot of focus on user customizability, as that's how I want a plugin to be!

As always, please feedback and preferably post them in Issues on Github. And yes, localization is coming – it's just a hazzle! 🌎

🔖 Your bookmarks, in the Gallery

  • Now, the Bookmarks feature is not meant to replace the vanilla Bookmarks navigation in KOReader. Instead, it's a way of easily storing references that you want to look at later! To add a bookmark gesture in KOReader, configure your Gestures and look for "Toggle bookmark".
  • See your bookmarked pages alongside the images. Turn on Include Bookmarks in Gallery and the pages you've dog-eared show up as thumbnails, in reading order among the pictures. It's a fast way to keep a glossary, a family tree, or a map that lives in the text just a swipe away.
  • Remove a bookmark right from Glimpse. Long-press it in the Gallery, or use the viewer's ⋯ menu, and it's deleted from the book itself, not just hidden.

🎯 A smarter filter, with fewer good images wrongly hidden

  • Maps, family trees, diagrams, charts and timelines named as such are now recognized as reference content.
  • Illustrated non-fiction is treated more gently. When a book already keeps lots of figures (cookbooks, science, how-to), Glimpse automatically relaxes its size floor for that book so smaller diagrams come through too, while novels stay strict so their decorative bits don't leak in. (Tuned across a 200+ book library.)

🔍 Zoom, your way

  • Choose how far you can zoom, from 150% up to 400% (Advanced → Maximum zoom).
  • Optional on-screen zoom controls, a small +/fit/− strip for zooming without pinching. The +/− dim at the limits, and the middle button snaps back to a fitted view.

⚡ Snappier, flashless viewing

  • Switching between images no longer flashes the whole screen each time you flip with the arrows or a swipe. (New Advanced → Fast image switching, on by default. Turn it off if a previous image ever ghosts through on a slower panel.)
  • Menus and controls open faster, especially on e-ink, with cleaner shadows that fade in instead of flashing dark first.

🧭 A tidier, clearer menu

  • New "Enable Glimpse" switch turns the whole plugin on or off without unbinding your gesture.
  • New Gestures sub-menu to turn the viewer's touch gestures on or off individually: double-tap to zoom, swipe to navigate, pinch to zoom. Handy if one conflicts with how you hold your device.
  • The Gallery is now always one tap away at the bottom of the ⋯ menu.
  • Clearer wording throughout, with shorter labels and an option to silence the occasional "format not supported" message.

✨ Viewer polish

  • A new Gallery / Ignored switcher. Just tap to switch. It stretches to fill the width, so it reads clearly on any screen.
  • Bookmarked-page thumbnails are cached to disk, so reopening the Gallery after closing a book shows them instantly instead of re-rendering.
  • Assorted alignment and night-mode fixes for the page dots, zoom controls, and captions.

[UPDATE] Glimpse 1.2.0 – "Ghosts - be gone!"

Thank you for all the likes and feedback from the initial release of Glimpse! With this update I've addressed the most concerning bugs and issues you guys have told me about. If you have feedback or bugs, please consider using GitHub's "Issue" feature.

Full transparency, I do not own a Kindle - so Kindle-specific bugs are a little bit like shooting in the dark. The ghosting should be gone for you now, but please let me know!

Changes in 1.2.0

🖼️ A proper gallery, with a place for filtered-out images

  • Two views: your Gallery and an Ignored pile. A button at the bottom flips between them.
  • Long-press any image to move it. Rescue a map that the filter wrongly hid, or ignore one you never want to see without switching to "show all images."

🔍 Sharper, better zoom

  • Zoomed-in maps and detail now stay crisp instead of going blurry. Glimpse re-loads the image at full resolution when you zoom in.
  • Pinch smoothly from best-fit up to 150%, or double-tap to jump in and back out.
  • Fixed: panning around a zoomed image could accidentally close Glimpse.

📖 "Show in Book" now lands on the exact image

  • Previously it dropped you at the top of the chapter. Now it jumps straight to the image you were looking at.

🌙 Night-mode fixes

  • "Invert in Night Mode" now works the right way round (it was sometimes reversed for some users).
  • Fixed a white drawer in dark mode on some Android/Boox devices. It's properly dark now.

⚡ Less ghosting (e-ink)

  • Opening, closing, and swiping between images no longer cause "ghosts" of the previous image behind, especially noticeable on Kindle and other e-ink screens.
  • New option to turn off the drawer's drop-shadow if it causes ghosting on your device (it shouldn't) or just for cosmetic preference.

💾 Behind the scenes

  • Glimpse's scan is now stored alongside the book, so it travels with the file between devices.
  • A rotated image stays rotated, even after an unexpected shutdown.

RELEASE: Glimpse 1.0.0 – Peek at maps, family trees and other reference images without losing your reading position

So I was frustrated with the hassle of going back to look at maps when reading Sci-fi and fantasy books: needing to go to Table of Contents, find the map, open it, only to lose your reading position (unless you add a bookmark).

Glimpse solves this. It let's you peek at maps, family trees and other reference images from anywhere in a book, without losing your reading position.

Glimpse is basically a side-pane that opens with the gesture of your choice. When opened, you can swipe between images, drag to pan and pinch or double-tap to zoom.

  • Finds all images in the book and filters out ornamental visuals and irrelevant imagery
  • Remembers what image you looked at last, including it's zoom and panning
  • Handles Night Mode, with optional Invert Mode
  • The ••• button is customizable for you to select what you need
  • Just tap on the right side to close it and continue reading

As always, let me know what you think and give it a go!

UPDATE: Footcream 1.6.0 - Metric to Imperial is here!

https://preview.redd.it/wgpg110007dh1.png?width=1293&format=png&auto=webp&s=8289500dacb86559c752e4807c84dfde60c50f5b

Finally, convert both ways is here! The new "Convert units to" setting let's you pick Metric, Imperial US or Imperial UK. As always, please report bugs and similar!

Also new:

  • A more intuitive Mode picker: a sample sentence shows exactly what each mode does, in your own underline styling. Mode changes apply when you leave the menu and declining a conversion restores your previous mode.
  • "Enable Footcream in this book". Turn Footcream off for a single book while other books keeps working.
  • Long-press any menu item for a plain-language explanation.
  • Shorter dialogs and a tidier menu (Unit categories now under Advanced).

RELEASE: Footcream 1.4.4 - no more confusing Freedom Units!

Today I'm releasing Footcream! Footcream is a plugin for KOReader that converts imperial measurements to metric as you read. You can either display converted units as tooltips, or choose to convert it directly in the text. Yes, Claude Code has been used to write the Lua - but the plugin has been tested extensively with a lot of content and I've been hunting bugs for over a month.

Features

  • No internet or AI needed – scanning and conversion happens on device
  • 20+ units are supported including length, weight, areas, temperatures etc.
  • Totally reversible - reverts the book to original on a byte-identical level
  • For ambiguous units, a weighting algorithm checks whether the "pounds" is referring to currency or weight
  • Style the tooltips and underlines the way you want
  • A lot more of features - check out the Github

I would love for you to give it a go and let me know what you think!

Megakonferens eller religion?

Vad är det som händer i stan idag när massvis med människor går runt med blåa nyckelkedjor runt halsen? Nyckelkedjorna har några sorts pins på dem.

Issues with text gaps

Is there any way to combat these gaps in the text in Crosspoint? Hyphenation is ON. I do prefer the Justified layout. Or does it have to do with text language? (Swedish)

Hiya! I've built a little plugin for Calibre that mimics the old but not forgotten X-Ray feature. Curie generates spoiler-free hints of characters and places and injects these as footnotes into your EPUBs. Feel free to try it out!

Still an early version, but I've been working on it for a month now. Let me know what you think! I also have some plans of adding hints for different types of freedom units (inch/feet/miles/pounds/fahrenheit etc.)
